Every year I always say I want to bake cookies and stuff. But I never really do. But I vowed that this year would be different and decided to bake Christmas goodies to give out to some friends and those who make our life just a little nicer all year long. People like our leasing office, and the church nursery and our doctor's office. Tuesday night, after Darrin and I had a little date night -- I started my baking. Now.... if any of you are 9 months pregnant and wanting to bake Christmas goodies - I wouldn't recommend starting at about 9pm - no matter how great you feel. I, however, didn't listen to this sound advice, strapped on my adorable yellow polka-dot apron and started baking. I had a doctor's appointment at 10:45 the next morning and wanted to make sure to bring them their goodies. After about 6 hours of baking ..... I was done... at 3am. Exhausted and hardly able to walk from standing in the kitchen for so long (not to mention rediculous contractions since I was totally overdoing myself) - I fell onto the couch to get some sleep. I couldn't even sleep in our bed b/c my back was hurting so bad, I had to prop myself up and sleep with a heating pack. Yea.. again... if you're 9 months pregnant - listen to your body and your husband and spread out your baking. Even if you're not 9 months pregnant..or pregnant at all. Spread the cheer and spread out the goodie-making. Wise advice.
Anywho - I made 5 different goodies: Peppermint Bark, Dark Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookies, Cranberry and Date Roll Up Cookies, Balsamic Chocolate Truffles, and Hazelnut Brittle. They all turned out pretty good and I was proud to bring them into my doctor's appointment the next day. However, upon my arrival, I realized that it was Wednesday.... not Thursday. Thursday I had my appointment --- and no, they couldn't get me in. :( :( :( I was bummed, but dropped off their little box anyways. When I came back today (Thursday) I found out that I was the favorite patient of the day! :) Everyone LOVED my goodies. The nurse at the front desk said "you did NOT bake all that stuff? Did you? It was SOOO good! " Another nurse commented on how wonderful they were and even my doctor himself raved about the Cranberry and Date cookies. He said that he even went home and told his wife about them! :) YES! Totally made up for the 6 exhausting hours into the wee morning I spent baking it all! Looks like I'll be making another batch for my appt next week. Don't worry though -- I'll start now! :)
You are insane!! I can't believe you put yourself through that! Glad everything turned out yummy. I love to bake, but find it so exhausting lately, so I just do one cookie or candy at a time - throw them in the freezer and wait for another burst of energy to move on to the next.
