Wow.... lots have happened since the last Jake update. Where shall I begin?
Well, one major thing that we've encountered with Jake is that ever since he was 3 or 4 weeks old, he wasn't a very happy boy. He had a good start but then things made a major turn. He was crying a lot, spitting up (although he would swallow a lot of the spit up, instead of actually spitting it out), very very congested, had a lot of gas and seemed to be in a lot of pain a good majority of the time he was awake. We started thinking he might have reflux and after talking to some other parents and Jake's symptoms becoming worse and worse - we decided to not wait until his 2 months dr appt and take him in early. When we did - the doctor told us that he did have reflux and that many reflux cases can be attributed to over-eating. The average baby gains 1/2 oz -1oz per day. Jake had gained 50 oz in 40 days. lol Our little chunky monkey. :) The doctor recommended me stretching out his feedings and to not let him nurse as long. I started paying closer attention to how much he would drink from a bottle versus how much I would pump. In about the same amount of time, I would pump double, if not more, then he would normally drink from a bottle. So this whole "over eating" thing made some sense. Since cutting back his feedings, we've definitely seen a difference. He's not completely better (he's still spitting up a little, has some congestion and gets gas trapped) but overall - he's doing MUCH better. He's at least happy for a good part of the time, so we're really excited that hopefully we can get through this without medications. Please keep him and this situation in your prayers!
This past Saturday we had a little "Meet Jake" party at my parents house. We had a lot of friends and family come to hang out and love up on him. It was a blast. Some of our friends from church even came out! We all use to be in a bible study when Rylee was just an infant and all the moms were still pregnant. It was great to reconnect since our group stopped meeting and have all the babies play with each other. These couples are so wonderful. Darrin and I are really blessed to have them in our lives!
Jake rolled over for the first time! Well.... the first time I caught it on camera, that is. Check it out! FYI - he was on his tummy for about 6 minutes before he finally got so mad he rolled over (so please, excuse his "I'm mad" cry)!!
