Thankful like a child

Yesterday during my morning Bible Study at church we were talking about being thankful. We first were discussing Jesus healing the 10 lepers and how only the 1 leper came back to thank Him for the healing (Luke 17 starting at verse 11). WE talked about how the leper praised God in a loud voice and how sometimes we forget to even thank God, nevertheless do it loudly. Somehow, the topic got onto praying like a child. We talked about how easy it is for children to thank God. How it seems almost silly the tiny things they thank God for as they pray. "Thank you Jesus for my toy. Thank you Jesus for (enter listing off every single name of grandparent, sibling, cousin, friend and teacher they know). Thank you Jesus for my fingers." and so forth. Of course, it's not silly at all. It's absolutely wonderful and we, as adults, could really take a lesson from these sweet children who have such a grateful heart. How amazing would our life be if, instead of constantly coming to God for prayer requests we just sat in prayer, listing off every single little thing we were thankful for. I'm sure we'd quickly forget about whatever other "problems" we're facing. Anywho....I digress.

So....fast forward to last night. The kids and I were on our way home from my parents and the moon was HUGE! The kids love the moon. I think it was one of Jake's first words and they both marvel at it every night. And last night was something to marvel at. It was gorgeous and breathtaking. On the ride home, as the windows were all wide open and we were taking in the moon's beauty I asked the kids who made the moon. "Jesus!!" Rylee quickly replied. I said "Yes Rylee, God made the moon. And the Bible says we need to thank God for the sun and the moon and the stars!" And without hesistation, with the window all the way down and the warm night air swishing by, Rylee shouted at the top of her lungs "THANK YOU GOD FOR THE MOON!!!!! WE LOVE YOU GOD!!!!" My heart filled with joy and my eyes with tears. How blessed I am by this sweet young girl. How amazing and wonderful it is that she shouts the Lord's praises for all to hear. I sure can learn a lot from her.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. ....
To Him who made great lights, For His mercy endures forever
The sun to rule by day, For His mercy endures forever
The moon and stars to rule by night, For His mercy endures forever
Psalm 136
